Refugee Family Sponsorship Program
“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” ~ Matthew 25: 31-40.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself…” ~ Matthew 22: 37-40
At Trinity, we recognize that all people are our neighbors, so we strive to be Jesus’ hands and feet as we reach out to those truly in need of assistance. Trinity’s Refugee Sponsorship Ministry is an opportunity to radically impact the lives of a sponsored refugee family in a very tangible way as often times, families arriving have little more than the clothes on their backs.
Our Refugee Sponsorship Ministry works in collaboration with Pittsburgh’s leading refugee settlement agency, Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS) to sponsor an assigned family. As a partner sponsor, Trinity arranges for temporary housing, helps find permanent housing, helps register children in local schools, provides orientation sessions to help the family acclimate, and provides financial assistance. This work supplements the core work JFCS is able to offer their families – something they sometimes are not able to do without volunteer sponsorship groups. Partnering with JFCS affords not only a blessing to a family but also offers blessings back to Trinity as we witness the Lord work through the sponsorship relationship.
Ways you can get involved:
- Donations of funds and household goods are evolving and always in need.
- Volunteers to help with family orientation. (Note: JFCS requires certain clearances and training to work with the refugees.)
